Spring Training 2017
On May 8th, 2017 the Mid Atlantic Chapter held their 9th annual Spring Training Day. Location was provided by Free State Drilling, Inc. at their Walkersville Shop.
Coffee and Donuts were provided by Hole Products.
The first session was conducted by John Fowler, Drilling Safety Solutions, Inc. John spoke of his experiences with safety in the drilling industry, both domestic and international. His presentation included slides of unsafe conditions that he has encountered. This allowed multiple discussions with the attendees and John.
The second and third sessions were conducted by Craig Skiles, Eastern US Sales Manager for Durham Geo Slope Indicator. Craig's presentation included the installation of Extensometers, Inclinometers and Vibrating Wire Piezometers.
The fourth session topic was on Infiltration Testing, conducted by Stacy Ziegler (Mid Atlantic Chapter Member). Stacy is the president of CGC Consulting, LLC and CGC Geoservices, LLC. Stacy spoke on the field infiltration, installation and analysis for different types of storm water management facilities.
Lunch was provide by Central Mine Equipment and Diedrich Drill.
Session five included our field demonstrations:
1. Drilling and installation of a shallow Field Infiltration Test, drilling, installation of five-inch PVC pipe.
2. Drilling and installation of a shallow 2.75" Inclinometer Casing with placement of cement/bentonite grout.
3. Drilling and installation of Extensometer.
4. Drilling and Installation of Vibrating Wire Piezometer.
Session six included a round table safety meeting conducted by Brian Swinski (Mid Atlantic Chapter President), Manager of Drilling Services for Hillis-Carnes Drilling Services. Discussions included the use of the NDA Drilling Safety Guide, Tail Gate Safety meetings and near misses. All attendees were encouraged to participate.

May 2015 - Spring Training
The 2015 Spring Training Day was held on Friday May 1st at Free State Drilling, Inc. in Walkersville, Maryland. A big thank you to sponsors Drillers Service Inc. (Breakfast) and Diedrich Drill Company (Lunch).
September 2014- Baseball Outing
A fun time was had by all September 14th as the Orioles got a win over the Yankees and the Mid Atlantic Chapter had a great evening together. This game was very special because Oriole and Yankee fans said a fond farewell to Derek Jeter as he played his final game at Camden Yards.
May 2014 - Spring Training
Attendees experiences hands-on demonstration tailored for Geotechnical and Environmental applications and smaller scale drilling operations. The site location was provided by Free State Drilling in Walkersville, Maryland.
