Mid-Atlantic Chapter News
Spring Training 2016
The Mid Atlantic Chapter 8th Annual Spring Training day was held on May 13th at Connelly Drilling’s Fredrick location.
Duane Pearce from the Maryland State Highway Administration led a discussion on a typical DOT inspection on Maryland highways.
Frank Villella provided a presentation on proper core bit selection and hardness of rock. At the end of his presentation, Frank had participants come up and build a diamond bit that will be shown at the NDA Convention in September.
Erick Hajek from Terra Testing, along with Rob Caho from Diedrich Drill, gave a presentation on core barrel maintenance.
We had a fantastic Outside Demonstration that focused on rock coring in Karst geology. We had two rigs set up, one with typical NQ2 wireline coring and the other with HQ triple tube wireline coring.
Rob Caho then gave an interactive session on basic drill rig safety and maintenance.
Our last activity for the day was our round table safety discussion. It was during this time that we all shared safety stories. Accidents, injuries and near misses were the topic. The more we share with each other the safer we all can be.
We would like to thank Drillers Service for breakfast and Diedrich Drill for Lunch.
